Press Release
Many, many years ago my granddad, who came over from Ireland had the Horse drawn Hansom cabs in Brisbane. He had 27 horses. These horses were stabled near the Wool Stores in New Farm Brisbane.
Well I guess as the saying goes I stood in some manure sometime and have never got it off my shoes. As my life seemingly gravitated towards horses, I have always had an interest in breeding. As my family was never rich, I did not attain any great heights but have bred some nice ones whilst enjoying what I could do.
With my seventieth birthday approaching I realize that I am entering the twilight years of my horse breeding days so I am going to transfer my efforts to writing a book. This book will be about horse’s names and anecdotes as to how many of these names were arrived at. Also any funny stories you may want to pass on about your own experience with horses. Over the years I have seen many clever and comical names e.g. Shotgun Wedding by Best Western out of Whoops a Daisy (this was a mare I owned myself). There is normally a good story or two attached to these names.
I am seeking help from interested people to email me any stories about names and reason for names that they maybe aware of. It should be an interesting exercise to see some of these stories in print. I will be conducting extensive research into the exercise to obtain the best possible result.
As racing is an important part of our history it brings to mind some great horses such as Carbine, Archer, Pharlap, Peter Pan, Light Fingers, Lets Elope, and Makybe Diva and also of course the later ones, So You Think and Black Caviar. I feel this book will be received with great interest by many, and will be read in good humor and a sense of history. The book will be dedicated to horses in general, that have gone before us, to help make the great Nation what it is. Your help will be much appreciated.
