Elusive Quality | Bay Filly (2009)
Waller to add Quality
Given the dominance of Danehill, and the subsequent success of his sons and daughters, breeders have searched high and low for stock that will cross successfully with the outstanding son of Danzig..
Lines that have all struck lightning with Danehill are Zabeel, Quest For Fame, More Than Ready another that is not to be forgotten is, Elusive Quality.
Elusive Quality, struck early when Camarilla (ex Camarena) delivered a last-to-first finishing burst to win the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes. Sepoy (ex Watchful), delivered another reminder when the neat chestnut colt won the Group 1 Golden Slipper & Blue Diamond, both over 1200m. Just to remind us of his talents Sepoy gave the older horses a good old fashioned beating in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes early in his classic season before he claimed the Group 1 Ascot Vale Stakes on the Victoria Racing Club's Derby day in November last year.
This filly is from Elusive Quality's final book of coverings at a fee of $82,500 - and is out of mare by Zeditave, and, has no Danehill blood in her tabulated pedigree.
Although, Elusive Quality didn’t win a stakes event at three or four, he did show exceptional speed, running Honour and Glory to a nose in the Grade 2 King’s Bishop Stakes (1400m) at three, and, ran a slick 1:20.00 for 1400m at Gulfstream Park at four.
The following year, he was tried on grass as a five-year-old, and that's when Elusive Quality was able to win coveted black-type, the Grade 3 Jaipur Handicap & the Poker Handicap, the latter while running a mile a world-record time of 1:31.3.
Elusive Quality retired to stand at the relatively modest fee of US$10,000, but that didn’t prevent him from making a sensational start to his stud career, his first crop producing no less than 11 stakes winners, headed by French Champion Two-Year-Old Colt Elusive City; group winners Omega Code and Chimichurri.
From his second crop came another nine stakes winners, headed by Champion Three-Year-Old Colt Smarty Jones, winner of the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
During April, Elusive Quality was back in the news in Singapore when Mr. Big (ex Basamaat) won the Kranji Sprint over 1200m on Easter Sunday. Six days later, Cornell (ex Ivy League) won the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas over 1800m. Then to add a little more cream to Elusive Qualities April haul - Questioning (ex Am I) won the Group 3 Earl of Seton Stakes at Newmarket in England. Rounding out the month Mr. Big finished third in the Lion City Cup in Singapore a domestic group one event.
Not enough? This fillies damsire is Zeditave and since the 2011-12 season ticked over last August, the son of The Judge is on track to surpass the $4.6million and 103 individual winners from previous season. With 60 winners from less 180 runners, two stakes winners and five stakes placegetters, he continues to prove his worth.
Although Zeds was only lightly raced she is a proven producer being the dam of the five-time winner and Group 3 Queen's Cup placegetter, Phantom Agent (by Encounter), along with another four winners this filly is a September foal and is well grown.
Hailing from a branch of the family that's produced the AJC Australian Oaks heroine, Kenbelle (by Kenmare) and Group 2 STC Queen of the Turf Stakes winner, Kenbelle was also runner-up in the Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes and the Listed Wagga Cup retiring with more than half-a-million in earnings.
Zeditave, spent his years at Newhaven Park stud and is also the damsire of Reset and Sacred Kingdom and overall his stock have collected more than $43million.
