Cherokee Rose Stud is young by industry standards, but their knowledge and business expertise is extensive.Situated in the Macedon Ranges with views of Mt Macedon and the Cobaw Ranges, Cherokee Rose Stud is now in its eighth year of operation. Founded by industry stalwart Danny Rose and wife Hanna after the novelty of racing champion mare ‘Inaflury’ had worn off, they decided it was time to get a property of their own as their band of horses was rapidly expanding. Since conception Cherokee Rose Stud has made a name for itself in the industry for providing excellent service and producing quality and affordable stock. Danny and Hanna are always thinking outside the square as to how they can help people survive in the industry. To this end they are very happy to announce they are having a dispersal sale on Gavelhouse. Here you will find a number of good quality mares in foal to Floral Pegasus as well as younger stock ranging from yearlings to broken in horses. All stock varies in price and they hope to offer breeders and avid racehorse owners something on both a commercial and economical sale. This is probably the best opportunity to buy a mare in foal to Floral Pegasus for extremely good value. It is pertinent to acknowledge that all stock are bred out of mares Danny and Hanna have owned or raced and they guarantee a high level of quality. View All Stock for Sale |

![]() Manner Hill |
In 2005 they secured blue blood stallion Manner Hill (Danehill x Mannerism) and successfully syndicated him. Manner Hill stood his first two years privately in NSW and during this time of limited opportunity he only covered 21 mares. Danny realised he was an unappreciated commodity in NSW and negotiated to stand him at Cherokee Rose Stud. | |
|
One could not deny that Danny and Hanna put their all into promoting Manner Hill and pride themselves in the fact that the stallion they affectionately call ‘Boss’ has now covered over 400 mares. Danny and Hanna have already had early success with several of his progeny; Mark Kavanagh multiple city winner Zenawomann (out of a half sister to champion mare ‘Inaflury’) and city winner Mannopoly trained by Bill and Symon Wilde at Warrnambool. Mannopoly is out of superbly bred Dehere mare ‘Star of Dehere. Manner Hill progeny are late developers and don’t show their true finesse until they are 3 and 4 year olds. Other success has come from; Our Protocol, Feisty Manner, Fidakat, Manners Please, Mild Mannered, Mann Almighty, Sunshine Angel, etc, etc and he has now had 79 to race with 36 individual winners and 12 placings. With a statistic of 60% starters to money earners, it seems Manner Hill is earning his reputation for being a reliable bread and butter sire. Danny and Hanna identified a need to provide their client base with a commercial Group 1 winning sire and the option for a stallion free of Danehill. Remarkably in 2008 they were approached by a leading racing family in Hong Kong to stand Floral Pegasus. An Australian born and bred he was a $500k Easter graduate and proved his tenacity by being able to remain an entire and dominate racing at an elite level in Hong Kong. He gained a cult following there after proving he could beat some of the world’s greatest in the likes of Silent Witness and Good Ba Ba. His Group 3 win over 1400m was in world record time of 1:20:06 beating Silent Witness. |

The snap shot of Floral Pegasus is this: His dam by Mill Reef (14 starts for 12 wins and 2 seconds) is a full sister to two Group 1 winning successful stallions in Europe. It’s no coincidence this horse was a champion and is now a stallion. His breeding is nothing short of equine royalty, being by the tough and consistent Mr Prospector out of a dam by Mill Reef. Mill Reef is something of an enigma having raced 14 times for 12 wins and 2 second placings. He won a Group 1 at 2 years of age over 1400m, then as a 3 year old he won the Group 1 Epsom Derby over a mile and a half, then the Sandown Eclipse Stakes, the Ascot King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Over to France for the Gr1 Longchamp Prix Ganay and finally, as the jewel in his crown – he captured the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over 2400m at Longchamps. His two seconds are worth mentioning – the Gr1 Two Thousand Guineas and in France & the Group One Maisons-Laffitte Prix Robert Papin. FP offers incredible breeding strength through his female lines with his dam Crown Crest being a full sister to two multiple Group 1 winning sires successfully standing at stud in Europe. It’s no fluke that FP is now a sire and Danny and Hanna believe he has everything required to make the grade. Danny and Hanna also contribute a lot to their local racing, sponsoring Kilmore Racing Club and Bendigo racing. They believe country racing is a fantastic way to enjoy the competitive sport, providing local community with social entertainment, diversion and financial injection. Danny and Hanna believe it is crucial to support country racing – the vast majority of horses begin their racing careers in the country. In fact Danny and Hanna are very passionate about Victorian breeding and racing in general and they believe a lot more can be done to elevate Victorian breeding and entice new owners into both racing and breeding. This was part of their motivation for agreeing to stand Floral Pegasus. His commercial pedigree and profound racing ability in conjunction with his affordable service fee give Victorian breeders the opportunity to access arguably one of the state’s best sires. Cherokee Rose Stud offers premium services at competitive rates in; agistment, foaling down and all related stallion breeding/reproduction services, yearling education and preparation and racehorse spelling.
