Bloodstock South Africa will hold the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale on April 27th and 29th. The yearling sale has a long history of producing future champions and G1 winners. Recent top-class racehorses to emerge from this sale include champion filly, Princess Victoria, and G1 winners Potala Palace, Slumdogmillionaire as well as other South African 3yos Pomodoro, Depardieu and Divine Jet.

The National Sale has lost some of the quality lots to the recently established Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where many of the country’s top Cape breeders send their more precocious, blue blooded yearlings. It is a smaller catalogue than in previous years, with 450 yearlings going under the hammer as opposed to 600.

However, the National Sale’s long and storied past ensure that it has again attracted a strong catalogue of well bred yearlings. The sale is still strongly supported by many of South Africa’s top commercial breeders.

As always, the catalogue contains yearlings by some of South Africa’s best, and most sought after, stallions. Champion sire, Jet Master, is always popular, and having recently died, buyers have a rare opportunity to acquire the offspring of this great sire. He has 16 youngsters on sale, which include a half-brother to G1 winner Ivory Trail, a colt out of the G1 winner Sarabande, and a three parts brother to world leading sprinter, J J The Jet Plane.

Other leading sires represented on sale include Captain Al, Silvano, Western Winter, Fort Wood, Kahal and Fort Wood’s son Dynasty.

Trippi has made a sensational start to his stud career, and the magnificent son of End Sweep has 21 yearlings on offer. Trippi’s yearlings include a half-brother to G1 Cape Guineas winner Pointing North, as well as a half-sister to the world-class sprinter Tiza – who recently won his 13th race at the age of 10!

Red hot sire sensation Var is also well represented. Avontuur’s main man has 21 yearlings on offer, and, given the tremendous season Var is enjoying, they are bound to prove very popular. Var’s offspring include a colt out of the very fast mare Viva, and also a half-brother to the very promising 2yo filly, Captain’s Lullaby.

There are also many top-class mares represented at the National Sale. There are yearlings out of such G1 winning females as Bold Ellinore, Dare To Dream, Ilha Da Vitoria, Imperious Sue and Stratos, to name but a few.

The 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale also offers buyers the chance to buy yearlings by top international performers such as Rock of Gibraltar, Zeditave, Teofilo and Duke of Marmalade.

The sale starts at 11 am (SAF time) on Friday 27th April 2012. There will be live feed streamlined of the sale online at www.tba.co.za
