The Patinack Farm juvenile, Destruction (pictured), provided his sire with his 16th individual stakes winner for the season yesterday, as well as becoming the latest addition to the impressive tally of Westbury graduates to perform at stakes level this season. | |

Trained by John Thompson, Destruction drove through a heavy going to record consecutive victories from his second start when winning the Listed Channel Seven Dalrello Stakes over 1200m at Doomben. Bred by long-time Westbury Stud clients Peter Newsom, Tony Wales & Mac Whitehouse, Destruction's win yesterday has only furthered their credentials as very successful breeders of recent times. They have also experienced success at Group level this season with talented Flying Spur filly Full Of Spirit who was successful in claiming the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes at Royal Randwick, a race that fellow Westbury graduate, Crafty Irna, won the previous year. Their breeding success, which makes for impressive reading, to date consists of the multiple Gr.1 winner Sedecrem (by Faltaat) who won an Easter Handicap and two Waikato Draught Sprints and posted a further five Gr.1 placings from the stable of Colin Jillings and Richard Yuill. His half-brother, the Listed winner Mount Street, who was unlucky not to win the 2003 NZ Derby before venturing to Singapore where he won the Chairman's Handicap Sg-3 and was placed in the Singapore Gold Cup, Full of Spirit a Gr.3 winner, and Storm Signal a Group 3 winner in Melbourne from the Peter Moody stable, and now a stakes producer in Destruction. Destruction was offered by Westbury Stud at the 2011 NZB Premier Karaka Yearling sales and was purchased by Connolly Bloodstock for $240,000. Westbury Stud has enjoyed a fruitful season to date with many graduates performing stakes level including; Full Of Spirit (Gr.3), The Travelling Man (SW), Donna Cattiva (SW), Later Gator (Gr.P), About Square (SP) and Niobe (SP). There have been a number of promising juveniles step out recently from the 2011 yearling draft including impressive stakes-winner Destruction, Latino Goss, Rue de Marengo, Ready Fortune, Sullen Art, Royale Crystal, Di Lusso, and Captain Oblivious which augurs well for another good year next season. The 2010 yearling draft has also thrown up some very promising three-year-olds lead by Gr.3 winner Full of Spirit, Listed winner Oak Park, stakes placed runners Cruiser and Are You Devious, Mosse, Razziya of Sydney, Petty Cury, Pasha Sumore, Shufflin', Fionn's Glory, Bombalatomba, Virginia Wade, Offangone, Angel By Me and Molto Grato. |
