Rebel Raider | Brown Entire (2005)
Dual GR 1 Derby ( VRC & SAJC ) Winning Son of RESET
Progressive and relatively newly established Southern Victorian Thoroughbred Stud Carin Park is proud to announce the arrival of the Dual Gr 1 Derby (VRC and SAJC) winning son of Reset " "REBEL RAIDER" who will commence stud duties this week at their Hamilton property.
Rebel Raider was extremely talented and versatile. Showing precocity he won at Gr3 level as a 2yo, had brilliant speed and stamina at the classic distances being a dual Derby winner at 3, and a WFA winner at 1200m as a 5yo.?Rebel Raider commenced his racing career in the stables of Leon MacDonald and Andrew Gluyas in 2008 as a two old winning the SAJC A.V Jennings HCP, 1410m then backed it up winning the SAJC Sires Produce Stakes (GR 3) over 1600M.
As a 3YO he returned to the racetrack in scintillating form in the spring winning the VRC Victorian Derby (GR 1) 2500m defeating the favourite WHOBEGOTYOU by 2.5 lengths running away and in the Autumn won the SAJC S.A Derby (GR 1) 2500M leading all the way and winning by 4 lengths. Also during that season he won the SAJC Chairmans Stakes (L) 2000m by a margin of 2 lengths.?Rebel Raider ranked top of the 2008-09 Australasian 3yo Classifications (long). As fate would have it injury struck this champion horse and he was sidelined as a 4yo only racing 3 times for 3rd in the SAJC Penny Edition Stakes (L) ending any Melbourne Cup hopes.
As a 5yo Rebel only managed 2 starts but convincingly won the SAJC Spring Stakes (Gr 3) 1200m by a margin of 1.81 lengths going away after racing wide throughout. As a 6yo he was brought back into the stables hoping for the comeback that all were wanting and he placed 4th in the SAJC Spring Stakes (Gr 3) on his return but a minor relapse of his injury has now seen the decision to retire this great horse to Stud duties. His Co trainer Leon Macdonald said, "I was fortunate to train the Champion 3yo of his era & AJC Derby winner Gold Guru and I'd have to say that Rebel Raider was a better stayer and he never realised his full potential".
Rebel Raider is the son of the Champion Racehorse and now leading Stakes producing sire Reset, son of Zabeel, who himself was unbeaten in his 5 starts up to a mile which included wins in the VRC Futurity Stakes (Gr 1) and the VRC Australian Gns (Gr 1), also won by Zabeel.
Rebel Raiders dam Picholine is by the champion Sire Dehere (USA). This is a female line full of depth and versatility. Picholine herself was a 3 time winner and placed 2nd to UNWORDLY in the AJC Flight Stakes (Gr 1). A star at Stud, her first 3 foals include SHAMOLINE WARRIOR a Group 3 winner who is commencing Stud duties in New Zealand this season, and the Shadwell Stud owned Metropolitan winning filly Sultah.?Sir Tristram (ire) is found on both sides of Rebel Raiders pedigree via his two great sons Zabeel and Dalmacia. Blevic, Nothin Leica Dane, Arena, Helenus, Elvstroem and the leading WA sire Blackfriars are all winners of the Victorian Derby and now very successful stallions.
Rebel Raider is a handsome stallion standing 16.2h and is very much in the mould of his grand sire Zabeel. He will be standing at a very attractive Stud Fee of $5500.00 inc GST for his 2011 season with discounts for Multiple or Stakes winning mares.
