Volitant | Bay Entire (2001)
Dual Group Winning Son of Champion Sire FLYING SPUR.
VOLITANT was trained and raced in Victoria, retired from the racetrack in 2007 to stand in NSW. Unfortunately, EI restricted his first season to 43 mares at Eagle Park Stud, Orange, and an ownership dispute prevented him standing meant in 2008.
Volitant is one of Flying Spur's fastest sons. His super fast time of 1.21.37 in winning the 2005 Group 3 Melbourne Racing Club Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, defeating dual Group 1 winner Yell, remains the second-fastest 1400m run on the famous track. Only Exceed And Excel's 1.21.20 in winning the 2003 Group 1 Dubai Racing Club Cup is faster.
As a 5YO, he repeated his brilliant front-running display on the same track, and distance, to win the 2006 Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m), defeating Group 1 winners Calveen and Titanic Jack.
Volitant burst on the scene as an autumn 3YO when he finished a close second behind Lieutenant in the 2005 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley. In his last preparation, he placed a luckless 3rd to Bel Danoro and GR.1 winner Perfectly Ready in the Listed Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington.
Volitant has a quality stallion's pedigree. His dam Sibon, is a daughter of champion sire, and broodmare sire, Bletchingly (by Biscay), which gives Volitant a healthy dose of the famous Danehill Star Kingdom cross, that is behind stud Champios as Redoute's Choice and Danzero.
