Bombora Downs Stud secures THEROCK son of Fastnet Rock

By Gary Moore June 16 2012

As the Fastnet Rock juggernaut continue to roll on, BOMBORA DOWNS on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria is delighted to have secured a magnificent looking stallion son of this Champion Sire for the 2012 season THEROCK. “ It’s the hottest bloodline in the country and now Victorian breeders have access to it at a great fee” said Christoph Bruechert.

The 3 Fastnet Rock Stallions Rothesay Stryker and Wanted covered books of 152,124,112 mares respectively last year. THEROCK offers access to this incredible Sire line at a fraction of the cost.

THEROCK was a $407,000 purchase at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale in 2007 – the third highest price horse at the sale, with trainer Gerald Ryan declaring him as, “without doubt, the best weanling at the sale.”

THEROCK is from the top producing Scenic mare Bumps, and is a member of the first crop of weanlings by former star sprinter, multiple Group One winner,  and now one of the world’s most sought after stallions, Fastnet Rock.

As a three year old, THEROCK had only three starts winning his first two Sydney races in devastating fashion. In particular, his win at Rosehill, where he beat subsequent Group 3 winner Neeson, stamped THEROCK as a serious racehorse. Further behind Neeson that day was subsequent Group 1 winner Small Minds. Winning jockey Chris Munce had no hesitation in reporting to TVN after the race that THEROCK was a Group 1 horse.

THEROCK was set to cross the Tasman and was the ruling favourite for the stallion defining, Group 1 $1m New Zealand 2000 Guineas at Riccarton. Within days of travelling, it was discovered that the horse had pulled up sore after his Rosehill win and again sent to the paddock.

“As a three year old, there was no doubt that THEROCK was one of my three stable stars - along with Melito (G1) and Rothesay (G2).”

“We thought THEROCK could have been anything on the track but now I am sure that he will make a top class sire and produce outstanding foals," Ryan said.

THEROCK is one of the most magnificent looking horses I have trained”, said Ryan. “He is very athletic, an exceptional mover, has incredible muscle mass, stunning head and massive hind quarters. He really has everything going for him to become a serious stallion and I think he will be an enormous success at stud.”

THEROCK will stand at BOMBORA DOWNS for the 2012 season for $3850 inc.Click here for full listing details or contact Christoph Bruechert on 0419 534961 (03 59 836802 )
