LONHRO'S first son at stud. Half brother to G1 SPORTS, G2 SEIKA and G3 MEDALS
LONHRO heads the General Sires list by earnings for 2010/11 in Australia. Breeders should note that he has one son at stud in Tasmania.
TORCH RELAY, bred at Woodlands, holds the distinction of being the very first son of the champion multiple Group 1 winner to go to stud.
TORCH RELAY was a brilliant racehorse who was an early runner, winning 2 races as a 2 year old, including the rare feat of a win as a 2 year old against Open Age horses! Trainer, Michael Trinder, noted at the time He was definitely the first youngster I put up against older horses. His target had been the Group 3 Tasmanian Derby and it was a tragedy that a throat infection curtailed a promising career on the track. However, that has turned out to be a boon for Tasmanian breeders as his owner, Dr Alan Jager, elected to leave him in Tasmania to establish his stud career.
Philip Swinton, President of Tasbreeders, who stands the stallion at Park Crest Stud, notes TORCH RELAY has really furnished out as a strong-boned, muscular, athletic individual. He stands at an imposing 16.2 hh and has a deep chest, stands over a lot of ground and has an intelligent eye. He carries all of LONHRO's best qualities. He has the credentials to give Tasmanian breeding and racing a significant boost. LONHRO, meanwhile, is carrying all before him and has produced Group 1 winners BENFICA and BEADED in a total of 25 stakes winners.
TORCH RELAY's dam, OLYMPIC FLAME, has produced 9 winners, including Group 1 winner SPORTS, Group 2 winner SEIKA and Group 3 winner MEDALS. His grand-dam, SPORTS QUEEN, also produced stakes winners, TOP CHARGER and SPARKLE WONDER.
The dam side of the family includes the mighty TAKEOVER TARGET. Tasbreeders CEO, Angela Armstrong, was pleased to announce recently that Financial members of Tasbreeders qualify for a 50% discount on nominations to TORCH RELAY, a saving of $2,200.
